Heaps Decent will transform Randwick Town Hall into a vibrant creative hub through a free week-long youth program spanning music, digital media and multidisciplinary arts. Evening workshops will invite the wider community to create alongside artists, culminating in a public showcase celebrating the original work and talent developed throughout the week.
About this workshop
Hip, Hop, Paint, Pop brings music and visual art together in a relaxed and social workshop led by multidisciplinary artist and Heaps Decent facilitator Rose Ashton.
Inspired by hip hop, pop and wider musical culture, participants will choose from a selection of iconic artists and performers as the starting point for an original canvas artwork. Participants may trace and reinterpret an image, draw freehand or develop a completely unique design inspired by their favourite artist, genre or musical memory.
Unlike a traditional paint and sip, where everyone recreates the same image, the workshop celebrates individual expression and encourages each participant to experiment with colour, composition and personal style.
Rose has exhibited and worked across Australia, the United States and Europe, creating paintings, drawings, murals, animation, video and community events. A passionate facilitator, Rose enjoys helping people of all ages recognise that they can, in fact, draw.
No previous experience is required, and all art materials will be supplied.

About Heaps Decent
Heaps Decent’s Town Hall Takeover will be delivered by a multidisciplinary team of practising artists, facilitators and program leaders working across music, songwriting, DJing, performance, poetry, digital design, visual art, streetwear and community engagement.
All workshops will be led by artists actively working in their fields, combining professional creative practice with strong facilitation experience. Their industry knowledge and confidence help participants engage with new ideas, creative processes and pathways.
