Join us for a screening of ‘The Farewell’, the acclaimed 2019 comedy-drama film written and directed by Lulu Wang.

Drawing on themes of familial love and intergenerational bonds explore in the Town Hall Gallery’s major exhibition ‘Familial’, this poignant film examines the complexities of family dynamics and expressions of love across cultures.

‘The Farewell’ follows Billi, a Chinese American woman who learns her grandmother has a terminal illness. In an effort to shield her from emotional distress, the family decides to keep the diagnosis a secret, a choice that leaves Billi torn between tradition and her own sense of truth. Heartfelt and thought-provoking, the film offers a tender meditation on love, loyalty and the ties that bind across cultures.

Also watch our featured short film, ‘Ripples’, produced by Swinburne film students Hugh Braithwaite and Brian Chiu, which will screen prior to The Farewell.

Town Hall Gallery will be open late. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase at the Arts Bar.

Tickets $20.
