In this new exhibition at Airtime outdoor exhibition space at Altona Meadows Skate Park, artist Naomi Thorpe aims to depict a scenario in which your subconscious reveals the liminal, ambiguous and uncertain space that is simultaneously the dreamworld and the unknown and uncharted waters of pre-birth and life. Teeming with possibility and bound by nothing, you look back into your own eyes.
‘DREAM: Back into the womb” will be on display on the Airtime flags at Queen Street Skate Park in Altona Meadows from June to August 2025.
Naomi Thorpe, artist:
“When we are asleep, we are at rest. We close our eyes and lay motionless, surrounded by warmth, safe and sound. I often wonder if when I am in that state, am I in a similar situation to my unborn self, not ready to take on the world, present but not present, and peacefully existing in my mother’s womb? When we dream, it’s the only place where we are truly existing without a physical body. Unable to control which direction we go in; we traverse the plains of our subconscious. Dreaming, our mind flows endlessly and is transported to another world.”
