In this two-day course, Kate Ellis guides you in adopting a new perspective for writing dialogue. She draws from a variety of acting practices to teach you how to use an actor’s lens to breathe life into your character’s speech, so they sound as individual as the people around you.

Explore how to honour beats, pauses and ellipses, represent vulnerability on the page and find a character’s emotional triggers and delights.

Bring pen and paper or a fully charged device to participate in the writing exercises.

Session 1 | Saturday 2 May from 10am – 1pm

Session 2 | Sunday 3 May from 10am – 1pm

You will learn:

How to use acting techniques to develop multilayered characters

How to deploy acting tips to write dialogue and advance the plot of your story

How to approach the written word in a way that is fun, playful and experimental

How to reinvigorate your creativity in different ways
