Danger Danger Danger Danger Danger & Related Works is the first solo show devoted to artist Chelsea Hickman’s ongoing textile banner project.
Commencing in 2020, the first work of the series – Danger Danger Danger Danger Danger – was commissioned for exhibition in a public site during pandemic lockdowns. From those circumstances of sharing and interacting with art – both confined and exposed – the proceeding works continue Hickman’s material exploration of the intersections of public space, protest, and art-making.
A maximalist bombardment of information and image – the banner project unleashes a frenzy of collaged notes, comments, day-dreams, news articles, and sloganistic calls-to-action relaying the artist’s frustrations within the fashion industry, queerness, and late-stage capitalism.
