In this immersive charcoal portrait workshop, you’ll explore the foundations of drawing the human head from various angles and profiles. We’ll cover essential techniques such as measuring for accurate proportions, understanding the planes of the head and developing confident contour drawings. Through focused exercises, you’ll learn to render facial features with structure and sensitivity. We will explore the expressive potential of value, line, edges and shading. You will build your skills progressively, developing an understanding of form and light. On the final day, you will put it all into practice with a live model session, bringing together everything you have learned in a dynamic real-time portrait study. This workshop is ideal for artists wanting to deepen their observational skills and expressive mark making in charcoal.
