There’s a new reason to look forward to Mondays in Bassendean — and it involves laughter, lager, and a little bit of local heart.
Cap Off Comedy, a new weekly stand-up show held at the Bassendean Hotel, officially launched this month and is already creating a buzz for all the right reasons. The show, backed by Grassroots Comedy, brings together live entertainment, community spirit, and fundraising in one refreshingly original format.
The idea is simple: entry is free, but audience members can donate $10 at the door to receive a bottlecap — their vote for one of three featured local charities. At the end of the 90-minute comedy show, the charity with the most bottlecaps takes home the entire donation pool.
“It’s comedy with a purpose,” says Xavier Susai, Managing Director of Grassroots Comedy. “We wanted to create something that’s not only entertaining but genuinely useful to the community. A free night out where people can laugh, connect, and still go home knowing they’ve done something good.”
The Bassendean Hotel has thrown its support behind the initiative, offering its space to host the event every Monday night. And the line-ups? A mix of seasoned professionals, local rising stars, and surprise drop-ins, all keeping the energy loose and the laughter real.
Cap Off Comedy is more than just another pub gig — it’s a platform for causes that matter, delivered with a microphone and a sense of humour.
Shows run every Monday at 7:30pm at the Bassendean Hotel.
