Hear author Julie Murphy and illustrator Annie White bring Bird Park to life in a special reading, then enjoy an interactive presentation from Canberra Walk in Aviary featuring some of their beautiful feathered friends. Bird Park is the perfect companion book to Julie and Annie’s most recent work together, Dog Beach (2024).

Young children will be delighted by the lilting rhythm of Julie Murphy’s text, along with the colourful illustrations from Annie White, whether they are already bird-lovers or only just beginning to learn about the beauty of Australia’s birds.
What you need to know
- Tickets are only required for children attending, no ticket required for accompanying adults.
- This event is ideal for children aged 3 to 5 years.
- The author and illustrator reading takes place in the Library foyer from 10:00am.
- The bird presentation from Canberra Walk in Aviary takes place outdoors on the podium from 10:30am

About the creators
Julie Murphy has been a children’s book author for over 20 years. Often inspired by animals and nature, she first trained as a zoologist and zookeeper. Other books of Murphy’s include Cheer up, Blobfish!, I’ve Got a Tail!, I’ve got Eyes! and Tiny Possum and The Migrating Moths.
Annie White works from her studio in Melbourne where she has illustrated over 90 books for children. Her picture books have appeared on the CBCA Notables list, the Speech Pathology short list and the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards short list. Her latest picture book is Clementine’s Treasure which was listed in the CBCA Early Childhood Book of the Year Notables 2023.
