Around the Block is taking art out of the galleries and into the streets of for a free moving image exhibition best experienced at night.
Around the Block will feature works by 17 artists and collectives in outdoor locations at Blak Dot Gallery, Counihan Gallery, Next Wave, and Michelle Guglielmo Park.
Opening Thursday 9 July and running until mid-August, the program will unfold across projection spaces and digital screens – with recommended viewing between 5pm and 10pm, and many showing all night long.
The artworks will change every fortnight – making Around the Block something to return to or stumble upon again.
The 17 artists in the program were selected through open calls initiated by the participating arts organisations, with Blak Dot Gallery centring First Nations artists and Next Wave prioritising early-career artists and experimental works.
Across the exhibition you’ll find works that reflect a diversity of perspectives and lived experiences – Indigenous, migrant, queer, disabled – and engage with themes of identity, place, playfulness, and temporality.
