An Alternative Prehistory (Reality Optional) by Matt Bissett-Johnson presents a selection of acrylic paintings alongside a series of animated short films. The exhibition creates an alternative history, or false palaeontology and a sensory experience with an undercurrent of satire and an alternate reality.
Like an outdated scientific illustration, the paintings reveal unknown and unlikely creatures. Some paintings act as the background for the animated films. Bissett-Johnson’s films are visionary narratives that defy logic or conventional storytelling, challenging the viewer to suspend reason, and go along with their stream of consciousness.
