Exhibition statement:

Australia’s premier wearable art event, the Australian Wearable Art Festival, is excited to announce the launch of its exhibition, A Wearable Canvas, at Cardinia Cultural Centre from April 5 to May 15, 2024.

Featuring a captivating collection of works from the festival’s past three shows, the exhibition showcases extraordinary pieces created from a range of uncommon materials including coffee pods, feathers, beads, aluminium, ponytail palms, crochet and macramé.

Event curator Wendy Roe said A Wearable Canvas is a must-see exhibition for lovers of haute-couture and sculptural art.

It’s a unique opportunity to see these works up close and personal and observe the fascinating techniques used to bring these spectacular pieces to life,” Ms Roe said.

Normally presented on a runway, this exhibition demonstrates the fusion of high-end fashion and sculptural art forms that the festival has become renowned for.”

Festival biography:

The annual Australian Wearable Art Festival provides a unique platform for artists and designers to embrace their creative exploration into form, structure, texture and colour using an eclectic mix of often unusual materials. Pieces merge materials in weird and wonderful collaborations where art, science, fashion and technology all collide.

With three shows held 9-10 August 2024, the Australian Wearable Art Festival will see a showcase of 40 national and international works presented on a 27-metre long catwalk on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. There are four main categories celebrating the creation of artworks – TRASHION, SUSTAINABILITY, AVANT GARDE AND FLORIANA. All of these categories are represented in the exhibition at Cardinia Cultural Centre.

To attend the festival, tickets can be purchased by visiting the Australian Wearable Art Festival website.
