Oliver Bown is an academic interested in understanding artistic and musical creativity using digital technology, and its relation to society. He is associate professor and co-director of the Creative Technologies Research Lab at UNSW, Sydney. He's the author of 'Beyond The Creative Species: Making Machines that Make Art and Music' (MIT Press 2021). He works as a partner investigator on the European Research Council project Music and AI: Building Critical Interdisciplinary Studies, and is paper chair of the 2025 AI Music Creativity Conference.
