A world first exhibition featuring original work by Victor Hugo is set to be showcased in the State Library of Victoria, at the same time as Cameron Mackintosh’s new production of musical Les Misérables hits Melbourne stages in July 2014.

The exhibition, titled Victor Hugo: Les Misérables – From Page to Stage, will show a collection of rarely seen material by Hugo including his writing and artwork and will explore his life and experiences in 19th century Paris and how they shaped his novel Les Misérables. It will also include the evolution of novel to stage musical, highlighting iconic moments over the last 28 years of the adaptation.
