$79.9M early budget boost for national institutions

Announced ahead of this week's budget, the Federal Government has given additional funding to several national institutions including the National Library, Museum of Australian Democracy and the National Gallery of Australia.

In a pre-budget announcement the Federal Government promised funding to the National Collecting Institutions (NCIs) with an additional $79.9 million in the 2021-22 Budget to be delivered this week. This includes $11.3 million stretched over four years for the Museum of Australian Democracy (MOAD) at the Old Parliament House and a smaller $2 million for the threatened National Film and Sound Archive.

In a statement Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said this funding boost was in part a response to the damage caused by COVID-19.
