Leading the ANAM Orchestra for the first time, conductor Douglas Boyd will share his fascinating insight into the world of Mozart and the composers final three symphonies.
Serving up a tumult of wonderful melodies, colours and imagination, these perfectly proportioned symphonies were written across two months yet the circumstances surrounding the works remains a mystery. Douglas Boyd loves the intrigue around their conception:
"No commission as far as we know, in itself almost unheard of for a work of Mozart. An assumption that they were written for a subscription series that never took place... really? ...in the middle of summer in Vienna, when most of the cultural life closed down? Perhaps it was simply an outpouring of Mozart’s innermost feelings, something he simply had to express."
Join Douglas Boyd and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) as they explore these three masterpieces side-by-side and draw your own conclusions!
