CIAF’s & Accor partnership culminates in knowledge sharing symposium
Cairns Indigenous Art Fair’s (CIAF) long established and valued accommodation partnership with Accor has been expanded to include venue hosting rights of Queensland’s Indigenous Art symposium.
CIAF Symposium 2019 – From Small Beginnings to World Recognition will kick off the event’s 10th anniversary program when it is held at thePullman International on Wednesday 10 July, 2019.
CIAF Symposium 2019 will provide a dynamic platform for Queensland’s Indigenous arts scape – from academics and artists to curators and collectors – to explore the many factors that underpin culture, capacity and the contemporary art market. Key note speakers include Djon Mundine, Hetti Perkins, Destiny Deacon and Daniel Boud.
CIAF Artistic Director Janina Harding said the inclusion of CIAF’s Symposium in its milestone year carries special significance.
“We are immensely grateful to Accor and Pullman Cairns International in particular, for believing in our vision for a symposium that generates a dialogue that underpins the significance of a Queensland’s Indigenous art.
“In its first year we have planned an exciting, full-day program that will inform and inspire delegates to consider the current and future state of Queensland’s First Peoples’ art,” Ms Harding said.
Accor has enjoyed an accommodation partnership with CIAF from the outset and will continue to offer special rates at its Pullman Cairns International, Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort and Cairns Harbour Lights hotels for visitors attending this year’s Art Fair.
Pullman Cairns International and Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort’s Cluster General Manager Monique Harmer said she was proud to be associated with CIAF and the contribution it makes to the community from positively impacting tourism and the economy to providing an inclusive platform for the state’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to perform and present their works.
“CIAF is such a wonderful event and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to host the Symposium in one of the city’s iconic and much-loved properties.
“We will do all we can during CIAF to make sure visitors feel welcome and free to enjoy all the cultural treasures on show at Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal and key arts and cultural hubs throughout the city,” Ms Harmer said.
