Zine-Making online workshop with Artist Garry Trinh (Youth 13-18 years)

Join us for a fun online Zine-making workshop via Zoom with local Artist Garry Trinh.

What is a zine?

A zine is a quick self-published book of original or collaged texts and images, usually reproduced via photocopier. Zines are the product of either a single person or a group, and are popularly photocopied into physical prints for sharing. Zines are popular with everyone and writers, photographers and artists use them to get the word out about their art.

On the day

For the workshop Garry will talk about what a zine is, what you might include in your zine and how you but together your very own zine.

A zine could be about anything. Think about a topic or interest that you might want to turn into a small book. Do you like skateboarding? Do you like to draw pictures of animals? Do you like writing poetry? Are you always taking photos and want to show them off in your own book? The possibilities are endless!!

What you will need for the online workshop:

  • Pencils
  • ruler
  • scissors
  • glue
  • stapler
  • four sheets of A4 size blank paper
  • photos or old magazines
  • ideas for your zine
  • An open mind.

Who is Garry Trinh?

Garry is an artist working in photography, video, painting and works on paper. He makes art about the uncanny, unexpected and spontaneous moments in daily life. He is inspired by his surroundings and from the vast visual output of mass culture. He is perplexed by the perception of artists as coffee-drinking loafers who work whenever they feel like it. He doesn't even drink coffee. His works are about a way of looking at the world, to reveal magic in the mundane. He is never bored and never late.
