Broken Hill Art Exchange has been conducting an art competition with a thematic focus on the elements of Fire, Water, Earth and Air since 2012. Using the city of Broken Hill as a gallery, participants of all ages and artistic disciplines are encouraged to find their own exhibition place for their work. An independent panel of judges tours the city to find a winner in each category, and the results will be announced at the Perfect Light Film Festival in Broken Hill on Saturday November 7.
Now a cornerstone of BHAE’s calendar of events, the competition and exhibition culminates our year, and helps shape our developments towards establishing a Broken Hill Biennale of Art. With a cash prize in each category, including youth encouragement prizes, the Environmental Art Award motivates artists and audience to share their feelings and ideas on how we relate to our world with the elements in mind. The exhibition phase of competition brings people out to see and experience Australia's Heritage City in a new way. An art-trail map guides you from exhibit to exhibit, taking you to corners of Broken Hill not usually on the sightseer's schedule.
Entries to the competition close on 14 September, and the exhibition opens on 26 September. While your work does have to be exhibited in Broken Hill, all artists are welcome to enter - perhaps you have a friend, relative or associate in Broken Hill who can assist with hosting your work.
