Critical Writing and Reviewing Practices

Critical writing about art is a key method for clarifying your understanding of and communicating your perspectives about artworks, artists’ practices and exhibitions/performances. It’s a crucial skill for all artists, art workers, art educators and art writers which enables you to clearly and convincingly share your insights into contemporary art with an audience.

In this workshop we’ll provide techniques for analysing art and take you through the process of structuring an argument to communicate your perspectives in a critical review-style essay. With your new skills you will be equipped to write informative, art-criticism texts for a wide variety of contexts and audiences , from art gallery and museum catalogue essays to broadsheet reviews.
