Australian Plays Transform

Australian Plays Transform (APT) is Australia’s national play development, publication and licensing organisation. It hosts the world’s largest online showcase and searchable database of the best Australian playwriting.

APT seeks new voices for new times, develops plays that change the national story, links them to production, publishes them, promotes them, and licenses them for future productions here and around the world.

It is an engine of purposeful cultural change and inspiration, centring the voice of the playwright.

playwrights imagine the world anew for us. But vivid ideas alone don’t make a great play.

APT helps Australian plays transform into better versions of themselves through development programs for playwrights at all stages of their careers and from many different backgrounds. These programs include workshops, commissions, residencies and masterclasses, often in partnership with other organisations.

APT believes in a world where Australian plays transform those who connect with them – artists, audiences, societies. That’s why we embrace publication, promotion and licensing, leading to more productions and study around the world, not only in leading professional theatres but also in community theatres, schools and universities.

APT’s catalogue currently contains the work of more than 1,000 Australian playwrights. Featuring the combined catalogues of Australia’s leading theatrical publishers, this definitive online destination for Australian playwriting provides theatres, artists, teachers and students everywhere with a simple access point for exceptional, production-ready Australian plays and the transformative stories they tell.
