It’s a rare thing to have a space dedicated to LGBTIQ+ culture and it is with immense excitement and pride that we launch the visual arts program at the Pride Centre. The Pride Centre will provide opportunities for visual arts and archival exhibitions and displays. Our visual arts programming will focus on art by LGBTIQ+ artists and/or art that focuses on LGBTIQ+ issues. We are seeking visual art exhibitions, installations and happenings that delight, celebrate, educate and provoke audiences.
Visual arts at the Pride Centre should reflect the diversity of LGBTIQ+ communities and be a catalyst for dialogue both within the LGBTIQ+ community and with the wider community. The program will include exhibitions in the Pride Gallery and display of art in other suitable spaces in the Pride Centre. The Pride Gallery is programmed by the Visual Arts Working Group, a voluntary group of LGBTQ+ artists and art workers who were recruited through an EOI process.
