Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts is calling for entries into our annual Members’ Exhibition, which features a $1,000 art award proudly sponsored by Bamford Medical and a $500 People’s Choice prize sponsored by TownsvilleTV.
Each year the exhibition enables our artist members to participate with one work 150cm x 150cm x 150cm or smaller that fits the exhibition theme. Recent themes The Future (2020) and Power (2021) captured the zeitgeist and were popular and well received. This year we are lightening the mood with a theme inspired by banter between our staff members – are dogs or cats better? The 2022 exhibition theme Cats vs Dogs invites members to have fun and be inspired by the literal depiction or more ‘highbrow’ interpretations of the theme – concepts or critiques of polarity, politics, binary forces in nature or any other interpretation of the phrase. We look forward to your creative responses!
Artists must be current Umbrella members to participate. The rate is $50 per year or concession $40 per year. Additional membership benefits includes eligibility to apply to exhibit at Umbrella, discounts to selected workshops, events and artworks, discounted local framing and voting rights at our AGM.Current members with eligible entries are automatically accepted. To ensure your entry is eligible, ensure you read the full conditions of entry listed on the submissions page – particularly regarding the artwork size, date parameters and commission rate.

Entries close: midnight Sunday 30 October 2022
Artwork delivery: Friday 11 November, Saturday 12 November, or Sunday 13 November (during Umbrella’s regular opening hours). For entries by artists located outside of Townsville, we can accept postal or courier deliveries if contacted in advance.
Exhibition opening launch: 6pm Friday 18 November 2022
Exhibition dates: 18 November – 18 December 2022
Collection of artworks: Monday 19 – Tuesday 20 December 2022 (during Umbrella’s regular opening hours). For unsold entries by artists located outside of Townsville, we can return works by post or courier if arranged in advance.
