Entries for the highest-valued art prize for women artists in Australia, the 2024 Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize, will open on Tuesday 14 November.
Established in 2017 to promote art and opportunities for both emerging and established women artists in Australia, the Art Prize has experienced extraordinary growth in entries each year since its inception. The 2023 Art Prize alone garnered a record-breaking 2042 entries, marking the highest number of submissions in its seven-year history. Remarkably, the Prize receives more than double the amount of entries than the renowned Archibald Prize, confirming the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize’s vital role in elevating the status of women artists across the country. Last year alone, three Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize finalists were also finalists in the 2023 Archibald Prize, the 2023 Wynne Prize, and the 2023 Solomon Prize. Additionally, two Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize’s women finalists have also won the Archibald Prize, in 2014 and 2018.
Australia’s most esteemed art prize for women artists offers an impressive prize pool exceeding $45,000, divided across four categories:
– $35,000 Professional Artist Prize
– $5,000 Indigenous Emerging Artist Prize
– $5,000 Emerging Artist Prize
– $2,000 People’s Choice Award, plus a $500 Art Pack
The Indigenous Emerging Artist Prize stands as the nation’s sole art prize exclusively dedicated to Indigenous women artists.
