As speculation mounts on how soon a federal election will be, it seems a good time to consider what our government has done for us lately. Often such a question comes down to hip pocket accounting or in the arts who-got-what from the funding bucket. But the sense of change the Rudd government blew in, and that has continued to blow so powerfully, particularly in the past month of politics, has been surprising effective in almost every sector of the arts across the country.

Looking back over the last three years of the Federal Parliamentary playground, it’s been a tough stretch for The Hon Peter Garrett AM MP. The big man’s been plagued by media chatter on the insulation debacle, criticism of the tortured bureaucrat-ese he now speaks, the government’s environmental back downs and his reduction to a ‘team player’.
