National Ausdance to close after defunding

After 42 years advocating for the dance sector, National Ausdance has announced its closure. While state organisations will remain, there is a gap at the national level.

Despite significant fundraising efforts and organisational restructuring, the organisation could not secure sustainable financial support.

Ausdance National was one of the casualties of the 2016 Brandis raids to the Australia Council. It was one of 65 arts organisations that was defunded on ‘Black Friday’ after then Arts Minister Senator Brandis requisitioned $104.8 million from the Australia Council’s general funding pool, a quarter of available funding.
