MEAA accuses government of misrepresenting funding

The Federal Arts Minister says government has provided more than $10 billion in COVID relief to the creative and cultural sectors, which MEAA calls ‘a terrible misrepresentation’.

The Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) has accused Paul Fletcher MP, the Federal Minister for the Arts, of misusing data provided by his department in order to exaggerate the Federal Government’s support of the arts sector.

According to a media release put out by the Minister’s office on 24 September, Australia’s creative and cultural sectors have benefitted from $10.7 billion in wages and cashflow support during the COVID-19 pandemic.
