Plans advance for major First Nations builds

Canberra’s First Nations cultural precinct Ngurra launches architectural design competition and Tarrkarri in Adelaide reveals latest updates.

The ACT’s $316.5 million First Nations cultural precinct, Ngurra, will be handing the design of the monumental building over to the winner of its architectural design competition, EOIs for which are now open.

Ngurra will comprise two key elements: the National Indigenous Knowledge and Cultural Centre, and a National Resting Place.

Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) CEO Craig Ritchie said that there is currently no facility in Australia that provides and delivers such functions in a consolidated and centralised form as those proposed for the Ngurra Cultural Precinct.
