The George Hotel is a major part of Ballarat’s history. Established in 1854, it is situated on one of Ballarat’s most historic areas, Lydiard Street North. A new laneway has been created next door and artists are being asked to submit their expressions of interest to create the artwork to be displayed there.

The George Hotel owners are offering $40,000 plus GST for the commission of the public art work to be displayed on the wall of the new laneway. Proposals are now open, and artists are encouraged to propose ideas for the art work that relate to the history of the George Hotel, Ballarat or the RSL.

The potential area covers approximately a 40 metre wall, and art works may be sculptural or 2D.

One artist or artistic team will be selected out of the proposals, and commissioned to create the public art work. No short listing for the project will be required.
