Whoever said the government is behind the times? The Australia Council has recognised the artistic merits of death metal band OUROBOROS by awarding them a $20,000 grant to assist in recording their next album. The decision has ruffled the feathers of shock-jock Neil Mitchell however, who vocalised his distaste for the fund allocation through his 3AW breakfast show.

Choosing the tax-payer argument, Mitchell spoke about his confusion as to whether or not death metal obtained artistic merit, saying: “It’s awful stuff, and you’re paying for it.” The vocals of OUROBOROS were later compared to the Cookie Monster on the program, after the young girl of a listener assumed that it was in fact, the Cookie Monster singing on the radio.
