Band and owner arrested after music venue fire kills 235 in Brazil

Two members of a band and the music venue owner have been arrested after a fire in the Brazilian venue killed 231 people.

Police have arrested the owner of Santa Maria nightclub ‘Kiss’ as well as two members from the band Gurizada Fandangueira, who were playing the night a fire broke out in the venue, claiming the lives of 235 people.

The fire is believed to have been started by a pyrotechnics malfunction, and police have announced that they are investigating the incident. In the meantime, club owner Elissandro Sphor and two members of the band, including the vocalist – who is believed to have set off the flare that proved deadly – are being held in custody.
