As the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival draws to a close, the best shows over the past three weeks have been shortlisted for the festival’s numerous awards. Simultaneously the Festival has caused a minor controversy by renaming the Barry Award, named after comedian Barry Humphries, whose views on transgender issues have put him at odds with many in the comedy community.
