Hamlet inspires immersive theatre experience at the Malthouse

Designed to be COVID-safe for actors and audiences alike, 'Because the Night' is Malthouse Theatre's major production for 2021.

A choose-your-own theatrical adventure inspired by Hamlet, and set across more than 30 custom-built rooms, has been announced as Malthouse Theatre’s major production for 2021.

Devised by Malthouse Artistic Director and co-CEO Matthew Lutton, and Resident Artists Ra Chapman and Kamarra Bell-Wykes, Because The Night has been created as a direct response to COVID-19 in order to perform to reduced audience numbers and promote a safe theatre experience for actors and audiences.

Richard Watts is ArtsHub's National Performing Arts Editor; he also presents the weekly program SmartArts on Three Triple R FM, and serves as the Chair of La Mama Theatre's volunteer Committee of Management.
