Young Australian artists to search for inspiration overseas

The 2014 Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships were awarded to three artists under this year’s categories of architecture, ballet, instrumental music, poetry and prose. Each winner receives $20,000, enabling them to pursue their discipline overseas.

The scholarships were established through the will of author and performing artist John Chisholm Marten. Since 1975, the funds have been granted annually to Australian-born artists between the ages of 21 and 35 (17 and 35 for ballet) under the rotating categories of acting architecture, ballet, instrumental music, painting, poetry, prose, sculpture and singing. The aim is to afford the artists the opportunity to so as to progress their careers.
