It was the worst of times. In 1900 one of the most dreaded of diseases, the Bubonic Plague, hit Australia’s shores and lingered for a destructive 25 years, in 12 major outbreaks throughout the nation.
The most devastated city was Sydney, the point of origin for the plague and where the disease lasted for eight crippling months. A total of 303 cases in the city resulted in 103 deaths.
