Venues and musicians are worried that tough new alcohol restrictions will devastate Sydney’s live music scene. Ben Eltham reports. 

It was all so predictable. After a sustained campaign in the New South Wales press against ‘alcohol-fuelled violence’, by late last week it was clear that Premier Barry O’Farrell would be forced to act. There was just too much media pressure, as both of Sydney’s daily newspapers vied with each other to whip the tragic death of a young man into a fully blown moral panic over young men and alcohol.
