There’s been a lot of noise in the media recently about a proposed welfare overhaul. You would have been hard pressed to miss it. Treasurer Joe Hockey said, ‘The age of entitlement is over. The age of personal responsibility has begun.’ Social Services Minister Kevin Andrews made it clear that with one in five Australian relying on an ‘unsustainable’ welfare system, changes needed to be made to avoid becoming like some European countries.
