Arts leaders protest missing freedoms in OzCo Act

Arts industry leaders say the new Australia Council Act fails to protect freedom of expression and leaves key cultural sectors at risk.

Twelve senior arts figures have written to the Minister for the Arts Tony Burke to protest at sections dropped or missing from the Bill now before parliament. The Australia Council yesterday offered to meet with the senior peak body artsPeak to discuss their concerns about the Bill.

The signatories include former Australia Council Deputy Chair Anne Dunn AM,  Executive Director, Regional Arts Australia Jane Scott, National Association for the Visual Arts Executive Director Tamara Winikoff and Executive Director of the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Association Dance College Kim Walker.
