At the forefront of contemporary art practice, JCG is embraced by its audience as a centre for learning and research, and also as a place of thoughtful contemplation. JCG is one of WA’s foremost public art galleries and curates the Curtin University Art Collection, one of the State’s major public collections. Established in 1968, the Collection has more than 2,900 objects valued at over $19 million and has major strengths in Indigenous art, Australian modernist art and contemporary art.
The Gallery enlivens the intellectual and cultural life of the University and its surrounding communities through campus display, exhibitions, events and public programs that explore global perspectives on contemporary art as well as promoting discourse in human rights, sustainability, inclusiveness and reconciliation. Through an innovative exhibition program built upon an ethos of excellence, the Gallery complements the international perspective of the University. Collaborating with national and international artists, curators, museums and galleries, the Gallery contributes to the dynamic and changing culture of Australia by fostering critical dialogue and cultural exchange.
