Gallerysmith celebrates examples of the very best contemporary art by a select group of artists from Australia and the South East Asian region.
The gallery was launched by director Marita Smith in 2008 with a stable of just seven artists but quickly gained a reputation for identifying and developing exceptional emerging talent. Since that time, the list of artists has been carefully cultivated, and Gallerysmith is proud to represent highly esteemed artists such as Dadang Christanto, Christopher Pease, Wilma Tabacco and Lynda Draper, important mid-career artists including Ian Friend, Adriane Strampp and Belinda Fox, while successfully forging the careers of younger practitioners Eric Bridgeman, Waldemar Kolbusz and Lori Pensini among others.
In addition to the three spacious galleries downstairs which present up to 15 solo exhibitions each year, Gallerysmith launched an additional project gallery in 2014 where it exhibits more experimental work, largely by unrepresented artists. Gallerysmith Project Space website is gsprojectspace.com
The Gallerysmith building is also home to a number of studios which provides space for twelve visual artists across a variety of disciplines.
