About Us

As one of the nation's oldest councils in Australia's second oldest city, Hobart City Council has demonstrated leadership on many fronts, making it one of the most liveable cities with a quality lifestyle. The Council seeks to facilitate, support and develop a range of programs and activities which support and enhance the cultural life of Hobart. These activities include the Carnegie Gallery exhibition program, the City of Hobart Art Prize and the Council's Public Art Program. The Council also provides in-kind and financial assistance to arts and cultural projects, events and festivals through its Cultural and Events and Festival Grants Programs.

If you would like further to discuss how you or your organisation can work with the City of Hobart in realising this bold new approach to cultural development, please contact the Council’s Cultural Program Coordinator, Ms Jane Castle on email: or telephone (03) 6238 2767.
