About Us

Penrith Performing & Visual Arts (PP&VA) was established in 2007, and is an internationally unique (and ambitious) amalgam of the visual arts, performing arts and arts education.

PP&VA produces and presents dynamic cultural and arts education programs for the people of Penrith, western Sydney and beyond, and comprises:

Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre
A superb venue presenting the best in music, theatre and dance.

The Joan is Penrith’s major cultural hub. Built in 1990, The Joan is a creative nerve centre for the region, a much-loved venue for audiences of all ages and cultures, and a home to a vibrant nexus of education and the performing arts.

In recent years The Joan has become a home to the relocated Q Theatre Company, which burst onto the scene in 1963 with a lunch-time theatre program, which became the longest running program of its kind in the world. In 1983 the company opened a new theatre in an old railway institute building in Penrith, where it continued to develop, adapt and survive over the years, premiering new works, and providing a place for emerging actors, such as Toni Collette, to make their mark.

Since 1990, the Joan has welcomed musicians and performers of the highest international standard and has developed a deserved reputation as a performance venue and teaching centre of excellence with many thousands of talented musicians and performers making use of the Joan and its teaching facility – the Penrith Conservatorium of Music.

Q Theatre Company
Presenting and producing great Australian theatre.

Penrith Conservatorium of Music
Providing music education for everyone.

Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest
One of Australia's most beautiful regional galleries presenting world class exhibitions.

Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest is set on the western bank of the Nepean River at the foot of the Blue Mountains at Emu Plains, and was established in 1981 at the former home and property of sculptor Gerald Lewers and painter Margo Lewers. Each year tens of thousands of visitors delight in the Gallery's dynamic exhibitions, events, education programs, splendid gardens and weekend café.
