About Us

Hurstville City Council governs the suburbs of Hurstville, Peakhurst, Peakhurst Heights, Oatley, Lugarno and parts of Beverly Hills, Carlton, Kingsgrove, Mortdale, Narwee, Penshurst and Riverwood.
Council's role is to maintain the quality of community, economic and cultural life that local residents and businesses expect. We provide a wide range of services to the community including:
- road maintenance
- waste removal
- social planning
- community information
- child care centres
- library, artistic and cultural resources.
Working with the community
Council consults closely with residents and businesses in Hurstville City to meet their economic, cultural and social needs. We are committed to providing services with fairness and equity. Customer service is a priority for Council and we endeavour to respond to your concerns and requests within one working day.
Council also works with the NSW and Federal governments, and community and industry stakeholders to enhance the quality of life in Hurstville City.
Council is governed by 12 Councillors, who are elected every four years by the people who live in Hurstville City and own property here. The Mayor is the leader of Council, and is elected each September by fellow Councillors.
Hurstville Council is divided into Hurstville, Penshurst and Peakhurst Wards, with each represented by four Councillors.
