About Us

Bayside has long been associated with the arts and has a rich cultural heritage. Artists including Martin Boyd, Alan Marshall, Clarice Beckett, Guy Boyd, Septimus Power, Margaret Baskerville, and Charles Douglas Richardson have all drawn inspirations from living in Bayside. The Bayside City Council has an extensive Art and Heritage Collection with over 1000 items including paintings, works on paper, ceramics, glass, textiles, mosaics, furniture and sculpture. Heritage buildings such as Billilla Mansion, the Brighton Town Hall, Kamesburgh and Black Rock House are just a few of council's fine cultural assets.

The Gallery @ BACC, located in the  Brighton Town Hall, presents a series of high quality visual arts and social history exhibitions, public programs and visual arts events. Supporting the work of local Bayside artists and arts organisations through the Access Gallery program, the gallery also gives visitors the opportunity to engage with important work by non-local significant and established practitioners. The gallery provides a space for people to engage with art at all levels.

It is also designed to showcase Bayside Council's cultural and art collections, and make them more accessible to the public. Bayside Council manages the exhibition program, which provides an opportunity for emerging local artists to mount a professional exhibition with assistance and advice from council officers.
