Pace Live

Pace Live is seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Consultant to help shape the future of our touring productions.

Pace Live – Production Consultant

Department: Production

Reports to: Directors and Producers

Contract Type: Project-based

Location: Flexible (with occasional in-person or tour-based requirements)

Company Overview

Pace Live is an entertainment and production company involved in the creation, distribution and marketing of live events, products, and services. We are an Australian-based touring company producing and promoting original shows. With renowned productions such as A Taste of Ireland and A Celtic Christmas, Pace Live delivers high-quality theatrical experiences across Australia, the U.S., the U.K. and beyond. We engage with artists and audiences globally, driven by innovation and a passion for world-class live performance.

Role Overview & Purpose

We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Production Consultant to help shape the future of our touring productions. This freelance role sits at the intersection of creative vision and technical execution, offering strategic guidance and hands-on support across our live entertainment portfolio.

Your initial focus will be on adapting and optimising two of our flagship productions — A Taste of Ireland and A Celtic Christmas — for presentation in a wider range of venue types and touring markets. This includes helping us translate these existing theatrical shows into formats that work for arenas, acoustic concert halls, and other unconventional or technically limited environments.

We’re looking for someone with the strategic ability to reimagine established shows for new contexts, such as residencies, festivals, or international tours — particularly where venue infrastructure, audience expectations, and touring logistics may differ significantly. You’ll work closely with our creative and technical teams to ensure that these adaptations retain artistic impact while remaining efficient and scalable to deliver.

This role is ideal for someone who combines deep production knowledge with big-picture thinking, and who thrives in flexible, fast-paced environments. Over time, there may also be opportunities to contribute to the development of new productions as we grow our show portfolio.

Reporting Structure

This role reports to the Directors and Producers and works closely with the Production Manager, Technical Coordinator, and other internal and freelance staff. It does not have formal direct reports, but will be required to liaise with and provide guidance to creative collaborators and contracted crew as part of project delivery.

Engagement Terms

This is a freelance position, with project timing and scope to be discussed with shortlisted candidates. Projects typically range from 1 to 3 months depending on scope and phase, and may involve part-time or intensive blocks of work. Rates will be negotiated based on experience and project complexity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Production Oversight: Provide expert advice across technical, creative, and logistical aspects of production planning and delivery.
  • Team & Talent Coordination: Support or lead recruitment of freelance designers, operators, and technical staff. Help assemble high-performing teams that match the needs of each show.
  • Workflow Improvement: Identify inefficiencies and propose practical solutions across scheduling, communication, design workflows, and tech documentation.
  • Production Design Input: Offer insight and guidance on show design and technical execution, including staging, audio, lighting, and system integration.
  • Budget Support: Advise on cost-effective approaches to design, sourcing, and team resourcing that align with project objectives.
  • Process Documentation: Help codify production systems, checklists, and onboarding tools for consistent project execution.
  • Creative Collaboration: Act as a sounding board for Directors and Producers, attending planning sessions and contributing to creative development where needed.
  • Operational Readiness: Ensure technical plans and touring systems are scalable, efficient, and suited to varied international venues.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrated experience as a Production Manager, Technical Consultant, or similar, ideally within a touring or live performance environment.
  • Strong grasp of technical production areas — sound, staging, lighting, QLab, AV — and how they interact within a touring context.
  • Proven ability to lead recruitment and build collaborative production teams.
  • A systems-focused mindset with a knack for improving workflows and operations.
  • Confident communicator who can liaise across departments and with external partners.
  • Well-organised and self-directed, capable of juggling multiple timelines and projects.
  • Based in Australia, with availability for project-based work and occasional travel to the Gold Coast for pre-tour or planning sessions.

How to Apply

To express interest in this freelance role, please send:

• Your CV and portfolio, including examples of relevant touring or production work; and

• An indicative project fee and your availability to lead a full redesign of one of our shows (e.g. A Taste of Ireland or A Celtic Christmas).

Please specify:

– Your general availability over the next 3–6 months – When you could realistically commence work – How long you estimate it would take you to complete the redesign, working on a part-time or flexible freelance basis

If you would like access to the current technical specifications for either show to inform your estimate, please contact us directly.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further discussion.
