Graphic Designer

ActivateUTS is a non-profit organisation dedicated to giving students a richer campus experience during their time studying at UTS. Our staff support over 180 affiliated clubs and societies. We also staff an array of campus facilities including great bars, cafes, retail outlets, a fitness centre, and student events, clubs, and societies. ActivateUTS is looking for a Graphic Designer for a 9 month fixed term period to cover maternity leave within the team. Reporting to the Senior Graphic Designer, this position sits within the Marketing, Communication, and Events Team is responsible for delivering creative services to all departments of ActivateUTS.

The Graphic Designer will interpret stakeholders’ briefs and execute creative solutions across diverse projects, including digital, social media, and print materials. Additionally, the role involves fostering positive relationships with all departments and external suppliers to ensure brand compliance across all marketing collateral.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create digital, social media, and print assets for various ActivateUTS brands, ensuring adherence to each brand’s guidelines.
  • Present and explain design choices in meetings, collaborating with the marketing team to align with brand strategy and goals.
  • Analyse project briefs to understand objectives and propose innovative design solutions.
  • Support the Senior Graphic Designer throughout the design process
  • Manage time effectively to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality creative solutions
  • Stay updated on design trends and best practices
  • Develop marketing materials that resonate with diverse audiences
  • Attend occasional out-of-hours events and handle extra tasks as needed

Selection criteria:

  • Proven graphic design experience, with relevant qualifications or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of branding, digital, and print design experience, preferably in an in-house creative department
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat)
  • Working knowledge of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro for animation and video creation
  • Familiarity with pre-press and print processes
  • Experience in project management tools
  • Strategic design thinking to meet stakeholder needs from brief to production
  • Strong conceptual design, layout, and typography skills
  • Understanding and practice of digital accessibility principles
  • Effective time management and multitasking abilities
  • Proactive, self-motivated, with a positive attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team
