Casual Venue Services Officer - Supervisor (FOH)

Darebin Arts Centre is seeking dynamic, friendly and focused individuals to be supervise the venue’s Front of House team on rostered shifts.

  • Casual Front of House Supervisor role
  • $48.516 per hour including 25% casual loading
  • Darebin Arts Centre, 401 Bell St, Preston. Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to be rostered for casual shifts at our sister venue, Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, 189 High Street, Northcote.

 

About the Role:

This Venue Services Officer – Front of House Supervisor role forms part of the Presenter Services Team that is responsible for all front of house, bar, and client-orientated administration support activities at Darebin Arts Centre and Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, including performances and events. The role is the first point of contact for all patrons, visitors and hirers to the Centres.

 

Duties Customer Service:

  • Provide friendly, focused and flexible customer service that is prompt, accurate, courteous and consistent to clients, customers and patrons
  • Respond positively to enquiries and requests in a calm and professional manner
  • Assist with venue tasks as required, including box office / reception duties where required
  • Supervise the Front of House team on rostered event dates, ensuring the smooth facilitation of events in a professional and courteous manner.

 

FOH / Bar Duties:

  • Act as FOH Supervisor as required according to procedures, ensuring food handling and FOH policies and practices, and Liquor Licensing laws and the requirements of responsible serving of alcohol are complied with
  • Ensure the Venue is safe, clean, and welcoming
  • Communicate any issues, incidents, feedback or suggestions through the appropriate channels.
  • Ensure the FOH team steam clean and maintain bar equipment as part of each event shift
  • Supervise standard operating procedures and safe work method statements for bar equipment
  • Maintain operational records (daily reports, POS system reconciliations, equipment usage, incident reports) for productions and events, as required
  • Act as a member of the FOH/bar team for events held at Darebin Arts Centre and Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, occasionally being rostered as an usher at Band 3 where required.

 

Workplace Safety:

  • Understand the City of Darebin’s and venues’ workplace safety procedures, for which training will be provided
  • Actively promote best practice in the area of OH&S responsibilities, including Child Safety policies and legislation
  • Ensure equipment is used within the manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain the safety, cleanliness and security of the building whilst working
  • Immediately report any safety-related, risk or OH&S issues
  • Ensure compliance to relevant OH&S, Council or Arts Precincts operational policies or procedures

 

First Aid Activities:

  • Undertake the role of Occupational First Aid Officer where required, to administer First Aid to members of the public who may be injured or unwell while using Council facilities. Training will be provided once the incumbent’s current certificate has expired.

 

Administration:

  • Provide basic administrative and reception assistance across the venue as required
  • Assist with ordering, purchasing and monitoring stock in the bar where required

 

Other:

  • It is understood that the position will be required to work evenings, after hours and on weekends as rostered.
  • It is understood that the position may be required to work across Darebin Arts Centre and Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre facilities
  • Other duties as directed within the skills and capabilities of a position at this level 4.

 

Skills & Experience:

  • Working knowledge of the customer service requirements and Front of House services of an arts centre or cultural facility
  • Previous experience working in a community, cultural, arts, hospitality or entertainment industry venue, particularly in customer service or similar role
  • A working knowledge of front-of-house equipment used for performing arts, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, meetings and functions.
  • A knowledge of evacuation/emergency procedures, fire regulations and safety issues.
  • An ability to understand security requirements for public buildings and a commitment to implementing security procedures and practices.
  • Current certification and working knowledge of the responsible service of alcohol in line with the venue’s Liquor Licence
  • Excellent communication, customer service, problem solving and resolution skills               

 

Qualifications, Certificates, Licences, and/or Experience:

  • At least one year’s experience in face-to-face customer service delivery, cash handling and food and beverage operations.
  • Experience in a cultural facilities environment
  • Experience in supervising staff
  • Current Level 2 Workplace First Aid
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate
  • A current Victorian Working with Children Card
  • Food Safety Supervisor certificate (desirable)
  • Experience using Lightspeed POS system (desirable)
