THE AUSTRALIAN BALLET SCHOOL SEEKS EXCEPTIONAL ARTISTIC DIRECTOR & HEAD OF SCHOOL
The Australian Ballet School (the School) Board seeks an outstanding Artistic Director & Head of School to succeed Lisa Pavane when she completes her distinguished tenure in June 2024, building on the legacy of her esteemed predecessors Marilyn Rowe AM OBE, the late Gailene Stock CBE AM and the late Dame Margaret Scott AC DBE.
Based in the heart of Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, the School is Australia’s national centre for elite vocational classical dance training. Established in 1964, the School’s curriculum, program and qualifications have constantly adapted to meet the evolving expectations of the artform, within the sector and the broader community. The School celebrates its 60thanniversary in 2024.
The role of Artistic Director & Head of School is a strategic and creative leadership role responsible for artistic and education excellence and the development of students by providing the highest quality training, education and wellbeing within a financially viable framework.
As the key creative leader, the Artistic Director & Head of School fosters and models a contemporary organisational culture that is creative, positive, progressive and inclusive. They will value a diversity of backgrounds, opinions and ways of working, drawing the very best from students, colleagues and partners in leading the development of exceptional Australian ballet talent.
This important leadership role requires deep experience within the artform, an understanding of ballet trends and international networks, with proven experience in elite ballet instruction and performance. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong track record of artistic leadership and a passionate commitment to vocational training at the highest level, a willingness to pioneer diversity and best practise, and a clear vision and ambition to take the School into its next phase.

LOCATION AND EMPLOYMENT ARRANGEMENTS
This is a full-time position located in Melbourne, Victoria.
A negotiated three-year contract is on offer with the opportunity to extend by mutual agreement. One-off relocation expense package offered.
