The University of Sydney Library now calls for applications from suitably qualified letterpress printmakers and book artists for a residency of 8 weeks, to take place during Semester 2, 2019. The residency is supported by payment of $5,000.
Fisher Library is the home to a print workshop housing an Albion Press, affectionately known as the Piscator Press. The Albion printing press was purchased by the library in the early 1960s and it was the passion of former University Librarian, Harrrison Bryan. The workshop also houses a second, smaller hand printing press and a 3D printer is also available.
Following the successful 2018 residency with artist Wendy Murray, the 2019 Printer in Residence program returns to increase awareness of the Piscator Press and to encourage an ongoing enthusiasm for book arts within the University. Hand-craft printers and printmakers are invited to propose a project for a print publication or creative work to be made in the workshop and completed during an 8-week residency.
We aim to foster a creative dialogue between print and digital processes, therefore encourage proposals that explore both areas.
Applications close Sunday 3rd March, 2019.
