Overview

Beyond the Studio is a fellowship program delivered in partnership with Sydney Dance Company to support the development of emerging leaders in dance in NSW. A dance practitioner will be selected to undertake intense periods of engagement with the company over a 12-18 month period, supporting their career progression towards a future leadership role in the industry.

Who can apply for funding?

You must meet the following three criteria:

1. Applicant type

You must be an:

  • Australian citizen; or
  • permanent resident; and
  • an individual based in NSW.

2. Arts practice

You must be either a:

  • choreographer
  • dancer
  • producer
  • composer; or
  • designer.

3. Career stage

You must self-identify as an emerging leader in dance in NSW and have a minimum of 7 years industry experience.

How much funding is available?

The successful applicant will receive $30,000 in financial support along with in kind support to undertake intense periods of engagement with Sydney Dance company over a 12-18 month period.

How will my application be assessed?

You must address three assessment criteria:

1. Merit

Your application should demonstrate:

  • your leadership qualities and understanding of the NSW and Australian dance sector
  • the quality and reputation of any previous work
  • your inspirations or influences

2. Impact

Your application should demonstrate:

  • where you are at in your career
  • how this fellowship opportunity will benefit you at this stage of your career

3. Viability

Budget and project plan will be determined in consultation with Sydney Dance Company.

When will I know if my application is successful?

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their applications under embargo in February 2020.

Under embargo means that applicants are notified but cannot publicise the outcome until the official announcement has been made by the Minister for the Arts or Create NSW. The embargo period is taken seriously and failure to comply may impact your current or future funding eligibility.
