2019 Taiwan - Australia Artists in Residence

APPLICATIONS OPEN for the 2019 Taiwan – Australia Indigenous Artist in Residence Program

Artback NT is excited to announce applications are open for the second iteration of the Taiwan – Australia Indigenous Artist in Residence program. This is a unique residency opportunity offered to Indigenous artists from Taiwan and Australia working in the visual arts, music, theatre or dance.

Applications for the Taiwan – Australia Indigenous Artist in Residence close on Friday 1 March, 2019

The program presents artists with an invaluable experience for cultural exchange. Artback NT Executive Officer Louise Partos said “this residency enables Indigenous artists from Taiwan and the Northern Territory an unparalleled opportunity to work in an entirely new environment and to contemplate and reflect upon their artistic practice.”

The rich cultural fabric and layered histories of Taiwan and Australia will provide the selected artists with a platform to produce innovative and exciting new work. The exchange will enable them to engage in different cultural customs and strengthen connections between their respective arts communities.

Louise Partos said “the residency will not only provide artists with memorable experiences, but also a stimulating environment to collaborate and grow their practices.”

Nhulunbuy dancer and choreographer Rachael Wallis travelled to Rinari for the first year of the exchange in 2018. Wallis said “This residency has made me think about letting go, creating movement and allowing things come …. This experience has definitely made me think that I give so much to other people and I love doing that, and it’s what I’ve always done – but it’s not selfish to take time out and create. That’s when I’m going to get my quality work done.”
